My honey and I have hiked Pilchuck once before around 5 years ago. I must say Mt. Pilchuck is a must do hike in Washington State. Incredible views! The original plan was to do Pilchuck earlier in the week but then when we found out it was going to be in the 90's we didn't want to get up early to go and thought of doing something more shaded... Monte Cristo would have been our next choice. The day of our hike plans changed again and Pilchuck was on, after we found out the lightening had cleared and it was not going to be nearly as hot as previously predicted. We jumped in our Jeep, grabbed Harley met our friends and took off.
This year there has been more search and rescue on Pilchuck than other years... could be because of people like us going off the trail and climbing up steep slick rocks.
Pictures of the scenery.
The gang sitting on the steep rock hillside. This doesn't look nearly as steep from the angle that we were taking the picture but we were climbing rocks that were at around a 75 degree angle. Good thing we had sticky shoes.
Harley did so good on the hike. That is why we take him... he is a great hiker! This one was a butt kicker, even for Harley. He is taking a break in the dirt after digging a shallow spot for himself.
Putting Harley in the backpack before we climb the boulders.
The gang at the top of the outlook!
We had a sweet view at the top and spent a good 45 minutes just taking everything in and eating lunch (late). We left just in time to see another lightening storm coming in (Harley's favorite!) and people hiking up (4pm) to spend the night in the shelter. What an amazing place to watch a lightening storm and see the sunrise!

Another search and rescue today august 9 at pilchuck. I just don't get it.
What is crazy is that trail is really, really easy to follow and the boulders that you climb to get to the outlook are not that big of a deal.
