Baker River Trail

Now that we are hiking with a dog we have to be careful about the trails we choose. In Washington there are lots of hikes that you can go on with a dog depending on where you are at. Mt. Rainier is not safe for dogs... but Mt. Baker is! Our first hike with Harley was in the Mt. Baker National Forest on the Baker River Trail. All in all, because the last mile of the trail was washed out we hiked around 4.5 miles and Harley loved it (all except for the thunder an lightning at the end). As we learned from a lady at church "the weather in the mountains changes very quickly." We started the hike on a 75 degree sunny day and ended with pouring rain, thunder and lightening. Bad weather or not, beautiful and fun.

The road leading to the hike.

Starting out.

Honey and Harley. Note: when you stop on the trail Harley instantly begins to whine even if he stops to sniff or pee if you don't get going quick enough again.

Over the river.

Through the woods.

Next to the river: notice the weather at this point.

"Livin' on the edge"

Honey and the river.

"Can you please get a picture of me next to the river?"

Running across the rainy bridge.

A fawn we saw on our way out. All alone, where's your mama buddy? Note: wildlife experts say to never take a fawn from somewhere even if it looks like it's mother is not around, she is watching from a distance. Deer routinely leave their fawns alone while they are out looking for food. Humans are the greatest danger to fawns.
