Out of the many items in our house, my most prized possessions if you consider them possessions, are my cats. I have 3 to be exact, classifying me (by many people) as a "cat lady." Maggie, Kitty and Annabelle are our little bundles of joy, laughter, irritation, and softness.
Kitty is the highlight of this article as we had quite a scare with her in October. Any cat person would say as soon as your cat stops eating you need to take it to the vet right away. However, this same cat person would also understand that when you work 40 hours a week there is very little time during the day to take these precious bundles to the vet during regular veterinary hours. For example, and a real example might I add, Kitty stopped eating on a Monday and we were not able to take her to the vet until Friday, by then we could feel all her bones and her spine had no meaty protection around it as usual spines do.
On Halloween, we took her to a vet that would specifically take Discover Card because this was the credit card we had. The vet took one look at her in his Elvis costume, squeezed her belly, took her temperature, swabbed her ears and said this cats needs a blood test, she needs to go the hospital. He would have done it but this particular clinic is not open on Saturdays and Kitty could not wait.
My husband and I drove the 30 minutes to get to the hospital, they kept her to do blood work, an ultrasound and urine tests. When we came back to check on her, after an uncomfortable dinner because of my emotions, we were informed that through these methods of testing Kitty had what appeared to be Cholangiohepatitis, Pancreatitis and a Urinary Tract Infection. They asked to keep her overnight. We obliged.
Our bill the next day was hefty but not unexpected, as we were given a breakdown of the costs the night before. Kitty was definitely ready to go home but would need medications, love, seclusion, and comfort.
Within the next couple of weeks, medications 2 times a day, and forced feeding Kitty quickly began to improve. I cannot deny that a lot of her improvement also came from much prayer and petition to the Lord.
Kitty is now getting quite fat and I think we may need to regulate her feeding. She is now back as top cat in the household, threatening the very peace and nerves of Annabelle and Maggie.
