Rejection and Persistence

  • Out of everyone living in our household the #1 to face rejection is Kitty. (This is a picture of Kitty, rejected on the end of the bed after my honey didn't pet her last night)

Each night when my honey and I head up to bed she follows. She always wants the attention of my honey and will wait a minute for it. If I reach out to pet her she will leave. Last night, Kitty jumped up on the bed, stood right next to my honey's torso, made her Kitty noise at him, and he reached for the bag balm for his dry hands. Feeling rejected, Kitty turned around and headed for the end of the bed where she sat facing away from us. Eventually, after my sad prodding on Kitty's behalf, my honey called her and she came running back.

Kitty also faces rejection from Maggie and Belle (Annabelle). Maggie and Belle cuddle and groom each other each night when we all head to bed, and often Kitty will look longingly at them. If Kitty were to head over towards them, most likely there would be some sort of altercation right on top of the duvet. Rejected again! I believe that if Kitty didn't go after Maggie so often just to harass her she might get in on the grooming.

I also believe that if Kitty were to wait right by my honey for him to pet her she might do better for herself. Persistence pays off and Kitty doesn't have it.

Perhaps Kitty should learn the biblical view on Persistence in Luke 11 and the story of the friend at midnight needing loaves of bread. I know this has been a great lesson that I have been learning these past few months.

Luke 11:5-10:

  • And He (Jesus) said to them, "Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves;
    'for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him';"and he will answer from within and say, 'Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you'?"I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs."So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened."

  • A great example of persistence in my life is in the life of my father.
    My honey and I have been praying for years for a full time job with benefits for him and it didn't come around again and again due to various reasons. This year he was offered a full time job with benefits, we were persistent in our prayers and Jesus listens. When something is going on I need to keep knocking on the door of our Lord until it is open.
